About:Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport

7 hour layover / stopover at Guangzhou Airport

We are due to be at CAN for 7 hours on the way back from our holiday in Australia.

Can we book an airport hotel or are we not allowed to leave the "checked in" area? Would there be lounges etc or somewhere to sleep / freshen up if we cant get outside for an hotel

If you hold a first-class or business-class ticket you may stay in the lounge on 3F, East-I Bridge. If with economy class ticket, you may have a rest in Pullman Hotel. It is a two-minute walk from the terminal.

As I know, for both options, you have to leave the restricted area. Because you are eligible to the 24h visa-free policy, you just need to apply for a stay permit upon landing, and then you can leave the transit area for a rest and fresh-up.

That's great thank you - so we can leave the restricted area and look at any of the airport hotels really than I'm assuming.

Does our checked in luggage stay checked in or do we collect then check in ourselves and any bags again before our next departure?

Yes, you can leave the check-in area. No worry.
Going out of the check-in area do not influence your luggage status. If it is a connecting ticket, your luggage will stay checked-in.
