About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

From Airport to Cruise ship in shanghai

1. We, German citizen living in the Philippines, are taking a Cruise on Millenium/Celebrity on Oct 9 2016, departing at 19;00h from Shanghai Cruise terminal.
We will arrive from Manila on Pudong airport on Oct 6 at 23;45. We booked a hotel in Baoshan from Oct 7 to 9
Do we need a Visa/ or does the 72h free transit applies? How to apply in Manila?

2. We will be again with a cruise in shanghai on oct 23 from 6am to 10pm
3. and again on April 21 2017 with a Cruise arriving at 8pm. We may leave Shanghai by plane to our home in the Philippines the same day.
Do we need an entry permit for 2. and 3.?

Tnx for your answer.

1. You can't make use of 72 hours free transit because it requires passengers to fly in and fly out. Therefore, you should apply for a tourist type from Chinese embassy in Philippines. It requires hotel booking, valid resident permit in Philippines and your cruise ticket from Shanghai. And your passport, filled application form and a passport photo are required too.

2. If you just transit in Shanghai for 16 hours on Oct. 23 by ship, then you actually don't need to apply anything in advance because you can make use of 24 hours free transit. However, I heard that some Chinese embassies actually require people to apply for a transit type in advance. So you'd better confirm this with your cruise company. If they insist that you should apply, then you should do it.

3. It's similar to your second question. You are qualified for 24 hours free transit. But it's still up to your cruise company.
