About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

If my ticket has a stop in HK on the return journey to Australia, is it ok for 72 hours transit?

I plan to fly direct from Sydney to Shanghai - No Stops
On the return leg I want to fly - Shanghai to Sydney with a stop in Hong Kong.
Is there a minimum length of stay required in Hong Kong?
Does there need to be a separate ticket for Shanghai to Hong Kong?

David, you mean you stay in Shanghai for 3 days, and then fly to HK? If yes, you are eligible for the 72 hour free transit.
Someone once said that you need to exit frontier inspection at HK airport if you want to use the 72 hour policy in PRC. Thus, the separate air ticket for Shanghai to HK is needed.
