cruising to shanghai, want to overnight 1 night in shanghai

Our cruise docks in Shanghai at 7am on a Thursday. We would like to spend the night in Shanghai and depart on Friday out of PVG on Friday at 6pm what are our choices? Thank you!

Annette, as your stay is beyond 24 hours and you enter by cruise ship, I'm afraid you do not meet the requirements of 24 or 72 hour visa-free transit. You can confirm this with Shanghai Immigration by dialing +86-021-31366000. If what I say is true, then you need to apply for a G type entry permit from the embassy prior to your departure.
