Do I need Transit permit for 8 hour stopover in Ghuangzhou?

I wish to ask, i am Irish and travelling through Ghuangzhou airport from brisbane to dublin and i have a 8 hour stopover in Ghuangzhou China. do i need a visa to leave the airport? and if i need it, which type is needed and if i decide not to get it do i need to stay within a certain section of the airport? (im reading conflicting reports on transferring from flights within the international terminal whether you need a visa or not). Thank You

Eanna, you can use the 24 hour direct transit, so you don’t need to apply for any entry permit in advance. If you want to leave the airport, you need to apply for a temporary stay permit at the airport.

Yes, it's very easy to get the temporary stay permit. After you get it, you can go to the downtown area and then return to the airport. The stay permit is free of charge.
