Transit visa for any 72 hour stay or less, even if to and from the same country?

Dear Embassy,
I live in Jakarta and will go to Beijing for 48 hours, after which I will return back to Jakarta. Can I still make use of the 72 hours visa-free stay even if it is not transit on the way from one country to another via Beijing? Thank you very much in advance for your reply. Warm regards.

Tatiana, under the 72h free transit rules, you can't go back to your departure country after the stopover. Otherwise, it's not valid transit. You can see whether there are cheap flights from Beijing to Hong Kong or Macau and on your way back you can stop in HK or Macau before back to Jarkarta. By doing so, you will be eligible.
