About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Layover in Beijing - visa required?

I am a Vietnamese student (with a Vietnamese passport) who is studying in the U.S. with a F-1 U.S. Visa. I'm planning on flying from JFK (New York) to Seoul with a 14-hour layover in Beijing. Do I need to apply for a Chinese visa to have the layover in Beijing?

Edit: I don't plan on leaving the airport - if that helps. Thank you.

Zach, you don't need to apply for the visa as you are eligible for the 24-hour direct transit policy. In fact, it's ok for you to go out and visit the city. You can apply for a temporary stay permit for free at the airport so that you can go out.
