About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

am I eligible for 72-hour Visa-free Transit

Hi

I understand that I can apply for the 72-hour free transit if I travel from Sin to Chengdu and Chengdu to KL to Sin. However, I am only going to KL for transit back to Singapore. Will the 72-hour free transit still be applicable as I am afraid they will scrutinize the return trip ticket?
