Hello i am Dr. Rohit and i am indian passport holder but now i am working in china

I have Z-VISA and working in Fuzhou city, Fujian Province. My passport will be expired on Nov-2016 but before that may be on April/May-2016 i will apply for renewal of my passport from Shanghai.
So do i need to go in-presence at shanghai? Is it possible to do this by my indian friend who lives in shanghai?
I will submit online application and print out and then i will send all documents along with my current passport and fee to my friend (who is already living in Shanghai).
Is that possible way??
Please suggest me better way?
What should i need to do in that case?
And when should i need to apply for renewing passport??
