Is the train connectivity good? Are there multiple times to choose to depart by train?  Is it possible to go by a bus from Shenzhen?

Well, no train operates between these two places. You need to take a train to Guangzhou first. However, there is only one train schedule depart from Guangzhou that can take you to the destination. So you are suggested to take direct long-distance bus to get to SY. Some bus stations in this city have coaches to there.
