240 hour transit visa on journey home

I reside in the USA and will be traveling to Manila, Philippines in April. Can I make use of the 240 hour transit visa on my way home? I’d like to spend a few days in Shanghai after I finish my business in Manila. Itinerary: US-Philippines-China-US
