About:Hong Kong Octopus Card

Doing a 12-hour layover in Hong Kong

I'm landingat around 18:00 and would like to see the symphony of lights. I plan to take the mtr to Avenue of Stars, walk up Nathan road a bit to check out Temple Street market and maybe Ladies Market. I know the mtr stops running around midnight, I was advised that I can go back to the airport on the N21or the N21A. My question is, should I purchase an octopus card, how much money should I load into it, and can I pay for it using credit card or will I need to exchange currency? Can you also tell me if octopus card is accepted in food stalls or restaurants?

If just for 12 hour stay, you do not need to buy the octopus card, just exchange or withdraw some HK dollars cash for the transportation and eating.

If you really prefer to use the card to pay the fare for travel, HKD100 is enough to top up for 12 hours stay. You cannot purchase the card with credit card, just prepare some cash.
Besides, the octopus card can only be used on designated food stalls and restaurants.
