I'm afraid not. You can buy the ticket on the spot for the same day. To ensure a smooth trip, it is best to reserve a ticket online in advance.  BTW, except public holidays and summer holiday( 1st June – 31st August), the palace museum is closed on Monday.

There is a special website for the reservation, but as i know, it doesn't have an English version, you can ask your hotel staff or Chinese friends to help you with that. I remmeber the site seems to be gugong.228. try it.
