Well, what the school tries to emphasize is that students had better not go to China earlier than August 21. You know, after you enter with the X1 type, you need to get a temporary residence permit within 30 days. During the period, you may need some evidential documents from the school. However, if you come too early, the school does not open because of the summer break, and this may hinder you from getting the residence permit. So it's suggested to enter after August 21.

Thanks @ Donna for the reply...but it wasn't a full explanation..what about the part of 31st of august?...what if I go after 31st of August? Will I have any complications?

I think it's OK to go after August 31st. As long as you inform your school in advance of this, there won't be problems.
