Can a non-native speaker of English find a legal teaching job in China?

Hi, I'm really at a loss here.

I've got an English Lit BA from the University of Athens, Greece and, although not a bilingual per se, my English competency is almost like that of a Native Speaker and my pronunciation is almost genuinely American. I have completed an internship course during uni as part of the curriculum. I don't have official experience of more than 6 months (actual xp 1 year but with private lessons) but still I know of people who fit my profile and have found jobs in China nonetheless.

My question is, if I find an employer that is eager to take me -I've seen an ad too many recruiting teachers from allo ver the world regardless of their being NS or not- will I be legally allowed to procure a work visa? I've read too many threads on too many fora and opinion seems to be divided...

JW, there are non-native English speakers who teach in China. In order to teach legally, you should apply for a Z type. To apply for the Z type, you should get the work permit with the help of your employer from local labor bureau. However, I heard that labor bureaus in many places don't issue work permit to non-native English speakers.

If you already find an employer, you should ask whether he/she can help you acquire the work permit. They should know clearly whether non-native English speakers still can teach or not.
