Do i need a regular visa? or fly to beijing and deal with it there in the airport?

I have round trip ticket from new york to beijing with one airline (united). but within aprox 25 hours of landing, i have weekend round trip ticket out beijing to travel with other airline (elal ).

weekend over i fly back to beijing , am there there for aprox 25 hours and fly back to new york with original airline (united).
