About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

72 Hour Visa Query?

My travel plans mean that I will be within Beijing for less than 72 hours, however, I have heard (from friends) that there can be some issues with trying to get into the country and around under the 72hour free visa. Is this something I should worry about? Or is it a very much hassle free process at the airport?

many thanks,
Matt

Matt, it isn't as horrifying as you thought. After landing at the airport, you can follow the leading boards to find the place where you can apply for the free transit. It's totally free. In fact, you just get a stamp on your passport, which allows you to stay in Beijing within 72 hours.

Thank you for getting back to me!

I am also interested, do I need to inform China border force that I will be hoping to enter the country under the 72hour free transit (not sure if I can just let my airline know at check in or if I should do it earlier than then?)

many thanks,
Matt

You don't need to do anything in advance. You can directly apply for it at Beijing airport.
