Jordan, you can visit Hong Kong for less than 14 days and Macau for less than 30 days without the entry permit. You had better take ticket and money at hand in case that the officer asks you to show them. In addition, if you are holding a single entry for mainland China, you have to get another entry to reenter after your visit.

Well, there is actually no detailed requirement on how much you should bring. The immigration just wants to make sure that you are able to cover your expense during your stay.

Thanks sally. I have the residence permit to stay here in China which is valid till September 2015. I will use the subway to go to HongKong from Shenzhen. How much money do I need to carry ? Does showing a credit card works ? ?
