About:China Family Reunion Visa

Work permit with Q1 visa?

I'm planning to move to China to be with my wife. I don't have a job lined up yet, but will I be able to get one with a Q1 type rather than a Z type?

Joey, if you wife is a Chinese, you can apply for the Q1 type. If she is a foreigner, you cam apply for the S1 type. However, if you use Q1 or S1 to enter China, you cannot work on either of these two entry permits.

If your wife is in Guangdong then yes you can come look for a job and go get a Z type in Hong Kong if the invitation letter is addressed to the Hong Kong Gov, IF anywhere else in China NEVER come without a Z type first. 70% of all Z type's now must be applied for in your home country. The 30% is in Guangdong province but still a little risky. I know you are excited to be with your wife but do the right thing for her and your future and get a job first and then a Z type in your home country. I'll say it one more time you can't change a Q1 into a Z type anymore, that stopped in 2012.
