Is a 72 hour free transit available at Urumi International Airport?

Maree, 72 hours free transit isn't available in Urumqi. May I know how long your total transit is (from when you land in Urumqi to when you fly out of Guangzhou? If it is less than 24 hours, then you needn't apply. You just need to apply for a stay permit when you arrive in Urumqi. Otherwise, a L or transit type is needed and you have to get it before you fly.

Thanks May. Unfortunately, my flight from Dushanbe arrives at Urumqi at 0705, and my next flight from Urumqi to Brisbane departs at 1255 the next day so the 24 hr transit stop doesn't work for me.
I assume I will need to apply for a double entry tourist type as I will stop over in both Guangzhou (overnight) then Kashi (Kashgar) for 4 days on my flight from Brisbane to China before overlanding to Kyrgyzstan via the Torugart Pass and eventually undertaking the above flights? From other posts on this website, it seems I need to provide copies of airline bookings as well as copies of hotel bookings in order for a tourist visa to be processed? Is that all the documentation that is required along with my passport?

Maree, you also need to submit your passport, filled application form and a recent six months passport photo except for air tickets and hotel reservation. If you enter mainland twice, then you should apply for a double-entry L type.
