I am flying from Kuala Lampur to Beijing (via Shanghai) to San Francisco, would I qualify?

Arrive in PVG on Friday morning, transfer to SHA, fly to Beijing, leave Beijing Sun 1:40 PM (ticketed as a KUL-PEK flight). I know that I am within the timeframe of the 72hr free visa, but with the layover in Shanghai I am not sure that I could qualify. Thank you.
