There are some experts who claim that Tang official language is Hokkien dialect. However, some other experts who refute that they speak Shanxi dialect because Li Yuan and Li Shimin are from Shanxi. So far, I haven't found any material that concludes what language Tang people talked about.

A few hokkien buddhist word do sound the same as sanskrit as compare to manderin. Example Buddha, hokkien is Bud but manderin is Fo, monk robe, sanskrit is kartina, hokkien is karsey, maderin is jiasi, Sankrit for Shakyamoni, hokkien Sekiamoni, but manderin Sijiamoni. This may be the hint as buddhist spread to China during Tang Dynasty.
