ningxiagansu province dialects

Question

I just wanted to know are the dialects of Ningxia and Gansu province dialects are the same? Well, I will be able to communicate well if I learn the normal Chinese of Beijing? I am asking because these two province has a great number of Muslims.What about Xinjiang? Which dialect do they speak? As I think the majority of Xinjiang are Muslims.

Ali, of course they speak different dialects in Gansu and Ningxia. You know, sometimes people from two different villages even speak different dialects. But you needn't be very worried. Chinese mandarin has been widely used. If you speak Chinese mandarin, most of them can understand what you talk about. In Xinjiang, there are several ethnic minorities. They speak their languages, for example, Uighur. However, people living in big cities can understand Chinese mandarin too.
