Layover Tour In December 2015 @ Beijing

I am traveling to Thailand in December and was planning to see the ming tombs and the great wall during a long layover. I am traveling with Carry On only and obviously the weather in Thailand will not require winter layers. I am wondering if anyone who has experienced BJ in December think that I could layer several thinner layers and a windproof light jacket with a knit cap and gloves will be sufficient warmth for the weather that is typical there in December?

Well, according to the previous statistics, the average temperature of that month is about 28 F.
Although there arer mainly sunny days, it's a dry and cold winter.
So you are suggested to wear thick overcoats, pants, sweaters and scarves. A light jacket is not enough for you to keep warm.

Oh, as you are a US citizen, you are allowed to leave the airport and travel to downtown area even if you don't have a Chinese visa.
Upon landing, you can take airport express to get to Dongzhimen Station first. Then you can make ful use of the subway system to go to Tiananmen Square, Silk Street or Wangfujing Street.
In addition, you can find many delicious local snacks in Wangfujing Avenue. You can taste some. Abundant interesting souvenirs can be found in Silk Street.
Have fun!
