The 4 cities are Hong Kong, Shanghai, Dalian and Beijing. We are Canadian citizens with valid Canadian passports.

Roland, I am afraid that you need to apply for a multiple entry L or G type for your trip. You are not required to apply for HK. However, every time you enter Shanghai, Dalian and Beijing, you need an entry permit.
