i want to travel from hong kong to beijing

i would like to know what is the more economic and fastest way.  I dont want to travel 24h by rail and i want to know if there is à nearby city from hong kong Where i can go to and have a rail ride to hong kong. I know there is shenzen but is there another route ? Is it cheaper by plane ? Than you

Shenzhen Guangzhou is he usually route for HK trip. You can think about the flight as well. Sometimes flight do have a very good price. If the price for direct flight from Beijing to HK are very higher for your date, you can also choose to fly to Shenzhen or Guangzhou first and then bus or metro to HK.
