About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Is the immigration picky about that and will they grant me the 72 hours transit visa?

I am flying out of Tokyo to Shanghai for a stay in Shanghai of 48 hours. Instead of flying back to Tokyo directly, I would transit through Seoul (2 hour transit time) then Tokyo.

Theoretically, you can make use of 72 hours free transit. However, previously a guy in the similar situation like you was refused to acquire the free transit. He transited in HK. The immigration told him that it would be alright if he exited the immigration and had the stamp on his passport. Considering that you fly with connecting flights, I am afraid that you may not be required to exit the immigration and renter in Seoul. Therefore, I think you'd better apply for a L type in advance. It's the safest way.
