About:China Student Visa

do I need to apply for a multiple entry one (if I can)?

hi,
I'm reading mixed things about this.
I may get an X1 for next year, valid for 12 months but I may want to visit hk or Taiwan in winter.

Is it true that my residents permit allows me to have multiple entries?

Paul, the X1 type is usually only for one entry, but this is enough for your travel. After you enter China, you are obligated to convert this X1 type into a temporary residence permit at the local eixt and entry administration office. Then with this residence permit, you can travel in and out freely.
