I will have a 19hr stopover in Beijing and want to visit the Mutianyu great wall section

Can I visit the Mutianyu great wall section on the 72hr visa tree transit or do i need to apply for a full visa?

No, you don't need a visa for the transfer time is within 24 hours. No need to use the 72h visa free policy. After landing, just apply for a stay permit at the airport, then you can leave the airport to visit Mutianyu Great Wall.
