About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

72 hour Policy via Hong Kong- Shanghai - Macau

Hi there,
Firstly thank you ever so much for the above info: very informative.

On a personal note, could you please kindly confirm if I'm eligible for 72 hour policy? British passport holder, I have a return ticket to Shanghai from Hong Kong but found out I need to return to London to apply for a 6 month multi-entry F type as it can't be done in HK as I'm note a resident and wasn't granted a L type as I've had 2 previous L types but still have personal items and important things I need to collect in Shanghai.

I plan to buy a ticket in Hong Kong for a flight from Shanghai to Macau, then from Macau travel back to Hong Kong then from HK to London. My Hong Kong- Shanghai- Macau, would that be considered a third region and eligible for 72 hour free visa?

Thank you in advance.
Regards,
Nicholas

Nick, Macau can be considered as a third region, so that this route is eligible for 72-hour free transit policy in principle. However, sometimes the immigration officer may doubt that you are just trying to avoid applying the emtry permit. My suggestion is you had better buy a ticket direct from Shanghai to London.
