About:China Family Reunion Visa

Need a Q1 type

I am an American living in China with a tourist VISA. Do I need to leave China to get a Q1 type and if so, do I have to return to the USA?

Timd, you can first try to change the tourist type into a Q1 within mainland at the local Exit and Entry Administration Bureau. If it cannot be done, you have to leave and apply for the Q1 outside. However, it is not required that you have to get it in the USA. You can apply for it in the countries nearby China.

Just add a tidbit to Tess, you need to go to the PSB office that does these entry permits and not all do, you have to find the main PSB office that does resident permits.
