Arriving from Honolulu departing to Kathmandu, do we still qualify for the 72 hour transit?

Hi,
We are arriving from Honolulu and departing to Kathmandu 18 hours later. As US citizens, we will obtain our Nepal visa when we arrive in Kathmandu so we will not have it when we are in Shanghai.
