About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

American and French Citizens traveling from Bankgok > Wuhan (WUH) > San Francisco, USA (SFO)

I am currently living in Thailand with a non-immigrant visa.

I plan to travel back to the USA to visit my family. There is a flight that I can book and stay a day or two in Wuhan. The 72 hour transit requirements say that I need one for a 3rd country. I don't need one to travel back to America since I'm a US citizen. Do I meet the requirements for the 72 hour free transit? I don't want to buy the ticket and then be declined when I apply at the airline.

Also, my girlfriend on a French passport will come. She will have an exemption as France does not need one to the USA for under 90 days stay.

Thank you for your help,
Danny

Danny, both of you can enjoy 72 hours free transit in Wuhan. However, you have to make sure that your flight doesn't stop at any other Chinese cities.

Thanks for your reply.

Actually, I just checked by calling the Wuhan International Airport. They forwarded me to another number to ask about the 72 hour transit. That English speaking person said that right now, Wuhan does not have 72 hour transit permits. Until May.

This is confusing.

Most of the stuff I've read online has been promoting Wuhan being one of the cities added to the 72 hour list, with capabilities starting in March (or April). Considering that it's already the end of April and they still aren't allowing 72 hour transit in Wuhan, I'm just worried that I'll buy the tickets for my June trip and then they will STILL have a delay in issuing 72 hour transit permits and I'll basically be stuck at the airport for 2-3 days... (unless I arrange and pay for an entry permit.)

What do you guys think? Any recommendations? I'm considering maybe going through CAN (Guangzhou) instead and sightseeing there. It appears 72 hour permits are currently available there.

Thanks in advance!
