Is the 72 hour transit visa free applicable on train between Hong Kong and Guangzhou?

No, as you check the policay online ''This measure is currently available only at the airports of Guangzhou, which means the 72-hour transit visa exemption in Guangzhou is only applicable to a passenger obtaining it at the Guangzhou Baiyun Airport.'' If you by rail, it will be not applicable.
