About:Chinese Embassies and Consulates

i will be flying from Germany to Tokyo via Beijing only on a 3 hour transit.

On return flight from Tokyo I will stop in Beijing and there for 2 weeks before flying back to Germany. Do I need more than one entry?

No, you actually just need a single entry visa. For the route from Germany - Beijing - Tokyo, no visa is needed for your short time transfer, so you just need to hold a visa for your stay in Beijing during the back trip.
