About:Policy for Foreigners with Immediate Family Living in China

Is it impossible to be a resident and work at the same time? What kind of visa required then?

At the moment I have a Residence Permit for two years.I am living in China with my (Chinese) wife and child. In the future my wife wants to start a business with wich I am helping.Because this will take some time,I want to take in the meantime a job as a conversation teacher English.I heard from a friend that they can arrange a working permit in one way or another or that I I don't need one at all.

I found out that there was a lot of restraint to take me as a teacher. Finally I found someone who was willing to take me.Later they called me and asked me never to tell anyone what kind of job I was doing. After my probationary period I was immediately fired.(I almost got the contract for one year)What is the problem and what can I do?

Rob, you must have entered with Q type and then acquired the resident permit, right? If you plan to work illegally, you should apply for a Z type. It means that you need to change your resident permit for Q type into a Z after you find a company who is qualified to hire you. That job you talked about may not be good. If he asks you to work secretly, then I am afraid that you can't get the Z type. It will cause a serious problem for you if you were caught by local police or someone reports you to the police station.

Therefore, I would suggest you find a qualified company to hire you. Of course, you need to provide related documents such as your diploma and working experience proof.
