About:Marriage Registration in China

US woman working in China on Z type marrying Chinese man (we will permanently live here)

I have some confusion about the visa aspect of marriage to a Chinese citizen. I have heard that when you get married you must have a Q type. I also heard that you cannot work on a Q type. So does this mean that if I marry my Chinese boy I will lose my Z type and no longer be able to work in mainland? We plan on living here permanently, and i simply cannot do that without working. What can I do? Is there anyway to marry him and still get a Z type in order to work?

Kathryn, you won't lose your Z type after you get married. The information you are given is not correct. Just relax and take it easy. After your current Z type expires, you can apply for new work permit and Z type to renew your residence permit.
