Marilyn, of course the groom pays for the wedding gown, hotel and other expenses. That's what Chinese grooms do. It is unfair, isn't it? The bride's parents accept the bride price but don't burden the wedding costs. It's a normal phenomenon. The bride's parents just prepare the dowries. To tell the truth, they just use the bride price you give them to buy the dowries. However, there are some parents who eventually give the bride price back to the bride after wedding.
