About:Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport

I plan to transfer my filight to Japan at Guangzhou in the next day, do I need a Chinese visa?

I heard there is a 72 hours policy without a Chinese visa at GZ airport to allow for international flight transfer. But I am not sure if this allow me to enter the city and stay at a hotel overnight, or I have to wait at the airport only. Thank you for answering the enquiry - Steve Wang from Australia.

If your journey is international - GZ - international, no visa is needed even if you go out the airport. The procedure is like this: inform the airlines when boarding – fill an Arrival/Departure Card on the flight - apply the 72-hour transit permit – claim the luggage – go through the custom, and then you can leave the airport.

No, you don't need a visa for your layover. According to the regulation, any passenger with the transit duration of no more than 24h is exempt from visa at the airport. But if you wanna leave the airport during your stay, you have to apply for a stay permit on the spot.
