I am a US passport holder.  I am travelling to Hong Kong and would like to visit Beijing for 2 days before returning to the US.  Will I be able to take advantage of the 72 hour visa-free transit under the following travel scenario?  US to HKG to PEK to US.

The route HKG - PEK - US is eligible for the 72h visa free transit. For this journey, you need to book through ticket in advance so that you can easily get a transit permit at PEK for yor two days' visiting in Beijing.
