Can you carry backpacks across the plank walk on Mt. Huashan?

I am planning on doing the plank walk next week when I visit, but I'm a photographer and have a backpack full of camera equipment that I need to bring with me. In all the photos that I have seen people are not wearing backpacks or anything... Are they not allowed? Or do you walk across the plank and then walk back to get your belongings? Or how does that work?

It is allowed. People do not wear backpack because it is very dangerous if to do so since the plank road is so narrow. There is a section that it is extremely sharp, the belongings you take would be very easy to drop down. Besides, it will distract you.
But you can take a camera with you. Just be careful. For your backpack, you’re suggested to store it in the starting point of the plank road. After you finish the walk and go back, you can get it.
