Visa for third country needed?

I am a German citizen, traveling (from USA) through Peking to Singapore. I would normally not need a entry permit for Singapore. Do I need one in order to qualify for the 72 hour visa-free stay in Peking?

No, you don't need one for the third country, what you need are the flight ticket for Singapore and your passport.
