Travel itinerary from USA to Shanghai

traveling from US to Shanghai. I might want to travel to hong kong so I know I'll need a multiple entry type but if I'm not sure of days I might travel or if I'll even go, do i have to submit that possible travel itinerary on application (because I wouldnt have made hotel reservations) or will they authorize one for dual entry if I just staying in Shanghai?
