Student visa query

I am considering moving to China to study at a language school. The school has provided information on how to obtain on as I need to come on a L type and on arrival with the school we apply for a X type.

My query is does a X type enable me to travel in and out of the country because during the holiday season I would like to go abroad to visit family/friends but I am not sure if a year long student type will permit me to travel out of China?

Any information on this issue would be very much appreciated thank you.

It depends on how long you stay in China and which type they apply for you. If it is X2 type, I am afraid that you can't get in and out of China as you will because it is just a single entry one in most cases. If it is X1 type, you can change it into a temporary resident type within 1 month when you arrive and then you can enter and exit mainland China as you wish before the permit expires.
