We want to go for a holiday and visit our friend in Guangzhou who will show us around and we are planning to stay with her for the duration of our visit.

Then a single entry L type is ok. If your friend can send you an invitation letter, then you needn't provide hotel booking and round-trip air tickets. Other documents are your passport, filled application form and a recent passport photo.
