About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

72 hour transit visa and about flying to a third country

I would like to visit beijing on the 72 hour free visa but they seem to say that I need to leave to a third city. Does this mean that a round trip ticket from Chicago and back would not satisfy because I am not going on to a third country rather than just going straight back to Chicago?

If you fly Chicago to China and then back to Chicago, you are not qualified to enjoy the 72-hour free transit. Personally speaking, you can consider to fly from Chicago to China mainland and then fly to HK and fly back to USA from HK. In this way, you are able to enjoy the 72-hour free transit.
