About:Shanghai Pudong Airport

I arrive Shanghai pudong terminal 1 and I would connect the flight to xian using china eastern

Shall I do the check in inside the terminal 1 or I need to pass through immigration and get by baggage and check in again

Yes, you can check in inside the T1.
Do you transfer from international to domestic? If yes, you have to get back your luggages and pass the custom. Then you can check-in the next flight and go to Xian.
