About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

do I need a full visa as I am travelling from HK to Shanghai for 2 days then to Taiwan?

Andrew, you still can enjoy 72 hours free transit in Shanghai. The premise is that you hold your air ticket from Shanghai to Taiwan in hands when you arrive at Shanghai airport.
