Cancelling Z visa and returing to China

I am currently on a working Z type in China but I will be leaving my work here before the one year is finished. I have notified my employer with 3 months notice that I will be leaving. I also will be returning to China after 2 months of travelling in south east Asia only for one day in between my flights. Can I cancel my Z type before I leave or will my employer need to do this? If my employer does not cancel it, will I have any problems returning to China for one day? Thank you.

If you do not plan to stay in China any longer, you can ask your company to cancel your work permit and then you can go to the local PSB to cancel your resident permit.
If they do not cancel it, it will not affect your returning to China for one day.

They did not cancel my Work Z type even though we quit working and went travelling for 3 months. As our work Z type was still valid when we returned to China there were no problems returning or leaving again. Just for future people in the same predicament.
