About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

20 hours in Kunming

Two Spanish friends will be in Kunming for 20 hours, just as a stopover from Sri Lanka to Korea. We'd like to know if we can visit the city on that day (leave the airport). If so, is there anything prior to arrival that we should do?
Thank you

Since it is transfer only having 20 hours, you can enjoy the 24-hour free transit to leave the airport. You do not need to anything prior to arrival, but just use your valid passport and departure ticket from China to apply for a stay permit to leave the airport.

Thank you! On the way there we have two stopovers in China. One in Shanghai for 16 hours, and one in Kunming for 2 hours. Total would be less than 24 hours. Do you think we might get a chance to visit Shanghai? Even if our flight to Shanghai is to another Chinese city? Thank you!

Your total time from your flight landing in Shanghai to the departure time from Kunming is less than 24 hours, right? If so, you can get a chance to visit Shanghai under the 24-hour free transit policy.
